Welcome to our 2011/2012 season

A new season, and there is plenty of good music to be heard in the next few months! On his retirement we would like to thank Sir David Willcocks for his long support of our society, and we are delighted to announce that John Rutter has agreed to be our new President. 	Saturday 22 October 2011 7.30pm Linton Parish Church VOSKRESENIYE Juriy Maruk conductor Now a firm favourite with our audiences, this wonderful Russian choir comes to Linton again this year during a tour of Britain with a new mix of Orthodox sacred music and Russian folksong. The sound is special, and the music captivating - a great start to the season.
	Saturday 19 November 2011 7.30pm Linton Village College Richard Uttley piano Haydn ‘London’ Sonata Britten Holiday Diary Debussy Estampes and pieces by Liszt Greig Winner of the first prize at the Haverhill Sinfonia Soloist Competition 2010 Richard Uttley has already received many other plaudits for his playing. Evangelical enthusiasm ... assiduous clarity ... lyrical poise ... a brilliant recital - The Times A pianist with something to say - International Record Review.
	Sunday 11 December 2011 7.00pm Linton Parish Church Come along and be part of the Xmas Factor - Linton’s own Christmas song talent competition! Open to any age, talent, instrumental or vocal groups or individuals. For further details contact the Secretary on 893 600 or email info@cambridgesummermusic.com Audience ticket (£5) includes mince pies and a chance to get last-minute gifts and stocking fillers.
	Saturday 11 February 2012 7.30pm Linton Village College Rachel Godsill soprano Marie-Noelle Kendall piano Rachel and her family have recently settled in Linton, and we welcome a performance by her of songs, arias and cabaret by composers including Purcell, Elgar, Quilter and Gershwin. A feast of song to warm a winter’s night!
	Saturday 17 March 2012 7.30pm Linton Parish Church Atéa Wind Quintet (formerly Skittles) The young, talented Atéa Wind Quintet, formed by graduates from the Royal Academy of Music, Royal College of Music and Guildhall School of Music and Drama, will feature some works from the British repertoire in this programme, including works by Sir Malcolm Arnold, a lesser-known quintet by Gustav Holst, and a smaller ensemble work by Frank Bridge. These will be contrasted with the famous Quintet No 1 by Jean Francaix, whose centenary is celebrated in 2012, and Samuel Barber's delightful Summer Music.
	Saturday 14 April 2012 7.30pm Linton Village College Rosalind Ventris viola Lara Dodds Eden piano Described as a ‘remarkable talent’ Rosalind Ventris performs regularly as a soloist and chamber musician in the UK.Tonight’s programme includes Brahms’ Sonata in Eb major, Hindemith’s Sonata Op 11 No 4, and Bowen’s Romance.
	Saturday 26 May 2012 7.30pm Linton Village College Ely Sinfonia Stephen Bingham conductor Ely’s high-quality community orchestra visits Linton for the first time with a delightful programme of orchestral favourites: Rossini’s Thieving Magpie Overture, Bruch’s Violin Concerto, Elgar’s Serenade for Strings and Mozart’s Symphony No 40.
	Extra Concert! Saturday 16 June 2012 7.30pm Linton Village College £12, £8 members Cellophony An extra concert by this group of extraordinary cellists, replacing the concert cancelled last season. Finalists in the 2010 Royal Over-Seas League Annual Music Competition, they are currently Park Lane Group Young Artists, recently performing at London’s Purcell Room to universal critical acclaim.
